What is it like for single parents worldwide?
I see many different scenarios of single parents having set up a support group in 2004 but I would like to know what it is like for people outside the UK.
Do you have a welfare system? If so can you get money to pay rent, free school meals, etc or do you have to work to provide everything from day one?
Here we have a welfare benefit system – social security – and have rent paid, council tax, and just enough money to get by on a week, well enough according to our Government that is, and there are new plans coming in to force lone parents to go out to work when their children are younger than 12, currently it is 16. Do you even get the choice?
What is the attitude to single parents there? Are you frowned on or praised?
It would be really interesting to hear from other areas of the globe, which could change peoples attitudes over here.. maybe..
This is going to be used in an article for a magazine in the UK would you be willing to take part?
"What is the attitude to single parents there? Are you frowned on or praised?" It depends, I’m an African American single Dad. It is much harder for all men but especially Afro-American Men to get adequate housing, stated aided funding, and JAH forbid you have to go to court. If you’re a man in the State of California and you’re on Child Support you might as well put on your chains and shackles for 18 years cause they have no mercy on single parenting men in this state. You’re looked down on a lot, and it is really sad because there are a lot of single Dad’s who are really being there for they’re kids, we cant all be branded as the "Deadbeat" because of the mishaps of the majority.
